Built on Tradition, Driven by Passion
Blessed with the same entrepreneurial spirit possessed by their father, Sam & Tony Caruso, owners of Caruso Hair & Esthetics, continue to treasure the importance of quality relationships and service excellence.
Their father, Tom, began cutting hair at the age of 9, as an apprentice in Nicastro, Italy. By the age of 20 he was a master barber and could provide a top quality haircut and shave every 15 minutes.
Tom set out to pursue the American dream in 1956, and traveled to the United States with the sole purpose of establishing a business and beginning his own family. Within 3 years of his arrival in Pittsburgh, he established a successful barber shop, married, purchased a home and began a family.
Pittsburgh men of all ages and backgrounds knew Tom. From 1956 to the early 1980's, he owned Caruso's in the West End, Caruso's in Sewickley, Caruso Brothers in Mt. Lebanon, Caruso Hair Shaping Salon in Squirrel Hill, and Caruso Hair Design in Village Square Mall. Approaching retirement, he decided to spend the remainder of his career as a barber at The Duquesne Club.
Raised with a great work ethic, Sam and Tony shared their father's dream of salon ownership. Sam simultaneously attended Pittsburgh Beauty Academy and John A. Brashear High School, becoming a licensed stylist at age 17. After graduating from Seton LaSalle High School, Tony realized that he also aspired to be a business owner and stylist. He graduated from Pittsburgh Beauty Academy at age 19. The two brothers made a covenant to become business partners. Building upon the foundation that their father provided, they formed the partnership of Caruso Hair & Esthetics and worked to establish the South Hills' leading, premier, full service salon.
Tom Caruso taught his sons that one's quality of life is only as good as the quality of one's relationships. Caruso Hair & Esthetics was built upon this simple truth. The entire staff at Caruso Hair & Esthetics treasures their client relationships.
